Weymouth,
New Bond Street

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council appointed SPG to develop this 6 acre site which had remained undeveloped for 13 years following previous failed schemes by other developers. SPG’s excellent working relationship with the Council enabled the scheme to be completed within 15 months, a record for the construction, fitting out and opening of a Debenhams Department Store.

The New Bond Street scheme, which was fully let at the centre opening date of Easter 2000, comprises about 200,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space including a Debenhams department store of 70,000 sq ft and 30,000 sq ft 9-screen multiplex let to Cineworld .

SPG’s funding partners were Scottish Widows and Hermes. The adjacent listed Georgian rectory, which was restored and extended for a restaurant and bar, received a Civic Society Award 2000.

Capital Value c £40M.
